The Interstellar Coalition is an inter-planetary alliance based on mutual cooperation and equality. Offically founded in 2155 by the Confederacy of Vulcan, Andorian Empire, Tellarite Republic and United Earth in response to Romulan aggression after their disruption of the Babel conference between the Andorian Empire and Tellarite Republic. The Coalition has in just a few short years become a powerful force in the beta quadrant riviling the Romulan Star Empire, Klingon Empire and Orion Syndicate.

 

The Coalition charter commonly known as the Coalition compact is a set of founding principles agreed upon by all founding members. The conditions vary from far and wide from the equality of all members to the sharing of knowledge both scientific and militaristic to the use of military aid in times of conflict and war. The Coalition however must not be mistaken for a single dominant power, but rather it's an alliance of four unique and individual species working together for mutual cooperation and survival. The Coalition is ruled by a council with no single leader, but an elected spokesman voted by the council. While not the most efficent method of leadership, it allows all members of the alliance an equal say with no single species becoming dominant over the others.

 

In 2157 the Coalition found itself in it's first major conflict and brought the Coalition's continued existance into question. The Romulan war, called by many other names, is a major conflict that saw members of the Coalition finding it difficult to agree upon a coarse of action.
